S03E05: A New Way to View Healthcare with Chip Harvey

Cristy Gupton and Chip Harvey discuss Homestead Healthcare and the solutions they provide for the Healthcare Industry.

Show Notes

Healthcare has evolved to make a profit at the expense of reliable, accurate healthcare. The traditional healthcare “coverup” has led to employers (the REAL payers) and employees (the patients) not knowing how to call “BS” when they’re led in the wrong direction. We need to fix that and provide employees more handholding options. We can expect neither employees nor their employers to know everything about the complex world of healthcare. Employers and employees already have plenty on their plates just running their own organizations. Let’s curate a package of smart choices into a health plan that makes handholding and white glove treatment the standard.

Chip Harvey serves as the Regional Vice president for Homestead Smart Health Plans. Harvey studied Economics at the University of South Carolina. He uses his financial knowledge to help with healthcare cost containment to help employers create better, more sustainable health plans.

Healthcare professional and host, Cristy Gupton, interviews Chip Harvey about providing issues plaguing the current healthcare industry. They discuss the fiduciary responsibilities employers bear under ERISA, the federal law that governs self-funded, employer-sponsored health plans. They discuss ways to contain costs and tear down the barriers in the healthcare industry.

Our Guest

Chip Harvey graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in economics. He has served in numerous financial and consulting roles before joining Homestead Smart Health Plans as a Regional Vice President.

As Regional Vice President, Harvey helps the company provide Healthcare Cost Containment, TPA, Repricing, and stop-loss insurance. In this role, Harvey passionately tries to save cost for employers and create zero cost care options for employees. At Homestead, they’ve gone farther than most health plans, by locking arms with the employer and serving as co-fiduciary. This makes a huge difference when it comes to ensuring your health plan is abiding by all of the tenants of the ERISA fiduciary duty. This couldn’t come at a better time, because employers have been misled into thinking that their big insurance carriers like Blue Cross, UHC, etc. are owning that fiduciary duty. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Now that Homestead is stepping up to act as co-fiduciary, employers who sponsor a health plan can breathe a little easier.

Chip also recently took the stage at DisruptHR Asheville to deliver a Ted-Style talk to HR leaders in the audience. View that 5-minute talk here. Curious about DisruptHR Asheville? Check it out!
